patience... should it really be one of your virtues???

Does it really pay off to wait for the right guy instead of dating people who are within our reach and readily available?

This a question most of us girls ask ourselves. Honestly, patience is not one of my virtues. If I want something, i'll try to get it right away. I perceive it as a challenge and not as a gift that will land on my feet without doing any hardwork! For example, I really wanted the 2006 Starbucks Planner. At first, I only had 2 stickers on my card. And I have to fill up 19 spots more. I said to myself... "How am i going to get that planner without drinking that much coffee???" I convinced my co-workers to give me their stickers everytime we buy at Starbucks. And viola! After 2 weeks, I was able to get the planner i really really wanted. If I just waited and relied on myself, before the new year starts I would be a coffee junkie... feel bad for still not having that amazing planner... and nearly broke!

Will this same principle work when looking for the right guy? A friend of mine met this guy and is steadily dating him for more than a month now. The first week they spent together was really heaven for her. He wooed her by taking out of town trips, endless texting, romantic chat conversations and with lots of surprises! She never expected that there is still someone out there who believes romance is not dead. She was swept off her feet. But after a few weeks, the guy's hectic schedule came in the way. He wasn't texting that much and the displays of affection became less and less. My friend became weary and tired of waiting. So instead of moping around, my friend was on her feet again and went back to the dating business! She went out with 3 guys within a week! Whooooooaaaah --- technically that can be called speed dating. After being physically and emotionally exhausted, she wondered if she did the right thing. Should she have waited in vain for Mr. right? She asked herself... would spending sleepless nights and lonely dinners be a better alternative to going out with different men and have a potentially great night?

I know this sounds cliche (sarah jessica parker in sex & the city) but sometimes I can't help but wonder... should patience be one of your virtues?

patience is a real virtue. the problem is not all of us are willing to wait. what if the wait was like, 10 years? you wouldn't want to wait that long, either.
